G.G Grassroots FC began their Dee's Dairy Cup 2026 campaign decisively, securing a deserved 2-1 First Round victory to book their place in the next stage of the competition.

The Green and Black outfit once again demonstrated their growing maturity, discipline, and attacking quality, with captain Tapiwa Ngungu and prolific striker Trymore Kawerere producing decisive moments that proved too much for their opponents.

After an evenly contested opening period, the breakthrough finally arrived just before the interval. In the 45th minute, skipper Tapiwa Ngungu showed exactly why he continues to lead by example, clinically dispatching the opening goal with composure to hand G.G Grassroots a priceless advantage going into the halftime break.

The celebrations had barely settled after the restart before the expendables struck again.

Just two minutes into the second half, in the 47th minute, the ever-dangerous Trymore Kawerere showcased his trademark finishing ability, adding a second goal with a ruthless finish that further highlighted the lethal partnership between the club's two attacking stars.

With Ngungu controlling proceedings from the front and Kawerere continuing his impressive goalscoring form, G.G Grassroots looked confident throughout much of the encounter, moving the ball with purpose and defending resolutely whenever called upon.

Although the opposition managed to pull one goal back later in the contest to make it 2-1, the G.G Grassroots defence remained composed under pressure, protecting their lead with determination until the final whistle.
